On the Painting Table: Legion of Everblight Shepherd

Just a short one today.

It's a Legion of Everblight Shepherd!

She's a pretty nice model but I bought this shepherdess strictly for her abilities.

She can expand the Warbeast control bubble allowing Warbeasts to act with more versatility, managing fury points and providing healing. An absolute must-have!

The paint-job is nothing to write home about but its serviceable for play.

On the Painting Table: Scather Crew

The Legion of Everblight Scather is a nice little unit that I got by surprise.

My lovely wife bought it me for my birthday from my Amazon Wish List and I'd totally forgotten I'd put it down.

They were my first Blighted Nyss models on foot so I had to decide on the entire armie's colour scheme right there. I'm reasonably happy.

They look slightly better in person than they do here.

It was dark turquise then mid with a touch of light. The furry bits were Graveyard Earth | Kommando Khaki and the rest was Graveyard Earth | Black Wash | Graveyard Earth.

 

The catapult itself it really nice.

They got their ass kicked in their first game but they looked good doing it and they had one good round of shooting.

Better deployment next time I think.

On the Painting Table: Vayl of the Legion of Everblight

Well I went to Christchurch model shop and what should I see in the bargain bin but this Legion of Everblight Warlock model for half price.

Vayl.

 

 Now I wasn't a HUGE fan of the model or rules but I bought it anyway. What the heck. 

And she's painted up quite nicely. 

Though I am and always will be shit at eyes.

I tend to use the best of the available models for all versions of any particular Warlock or Warcaster and so I have two different rule sets to choose from here - both of which are (according to the tactics articles) well worth taking.

We'll see. At the very least she'll be a nice change of pace from Thagrosh the Messiah (my favourite).

On the Painting Table: Trygon from the Legion of Everblight

Ah, what a beauty! And to think I didn't like Legion of Everblight warbeasts at first!

This is Trygom, a character warbeast from the Legion of Everblight with a great set of rules allowing him three powerful bites against tough models and three breath weapon attacks against infantry - even when in combat!

I painted him from dark grey, highlighting up to light grey and then off white. His armour plates are GW's Graveyard Earth | Black ink | Graveyard Earth.

My army needed another big beast and he fits the profile perfectly. In addition, he has a special connection to Thagrosh, my Warlock, allowing them both to regenerate when necessary.

He's just perfect!

Here he is with Thagrosh and my Carnivean, his heads thrashing about so quickly that they've become blurred.

More Pictures of the Throne of Everblight

Well these pictures were going to be another battle report but I didn't take enough in game and it was a bit of an abortive game anyway.

Here's the sorceress on the Throne of Everblight leading the charge on some ancient ruins... that look mysteriously like Weathertop from Lord of the Rings.

The aim of the mission was to capture and hold the ruins from the end of the third turn onwards.

As you can see, the Throne was so big that if it wasn't destroyed it would win by default, just because it hogged the entire interior.

Sadly for me it was destroyed in one turn of concentrated fire from the Khador opposition.

I've played a game with the Throne since and have got much better results, basically by keeping it on the flank. It doesn't need to be in the Warlock's CTRL area and being out wide means its survivability increases and its gigantic base doesn't get in the way of the rest of the army.

Spotlight On: The Throne of Everblight!

Allow me to present my newly finished Throne of Everblight!

Now this really is a lovely Lovecraftian-themed model - though I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

The skin is painted dark grey through to off-white. The armour plates are scorched brown | graveyard earth. The Tongue is dark red | black ink | dark red. The metals have a black ink wash.

Here's the sorceress on top.

And here it is next to the rest of my "army," such as it is.

It's a lovely centrepiece model but the slightly annoying thing is that in game terms, it is less powerful than this Carnivean (which is a fraction of the size - and so more versatile in the game) and a fraction of the monetary cost.

Having said that, this is good in some ways. It means I can have a huge beautiful model in the game without it unbalancing things in play.

New Legion of Everblight!

Well here's my new completed Legion of Everblight starting force!

They're (generally) lovely miniatures and I'm really looking forward to playing with them.

Let's take a look at the individual models...

First up we have the Carnivean - my Heavy Warbeast.

I painted it using GW colours: dark, light and lighter grey with an off-white highlight for the skin; Graveyard Earth | Black ink wash | Graveyard earth for the armour (and teeth!).

I'm not a huge fan of the Shredders - lesser warbeasts; little land sharks.

(Shrugs) They're okay.

Now this dude I just HAD to have. He's a Minion Swamp Horror and not really allowed in the army, but who cares! He's beautiful! The beauty of Hordes Machine is that the rules come with the model so you can use pretty much any model you fancy if you can weather the withering stares of your opponent.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as my motivation is to buy and paint a beautiful model (rather than getting some unfair tactical advantage) then what does it matter?

I love this dude!

He's why I got into this faction - though a tactics article I read didn't seem to rate him too highly...
