On the Painting Table: The Withershadow Combine

Man, I love these models!

The Withershadow Combine are three of the nicest Warmachine models and a unit I have always wanted to get. They're REALLY special. 

And they kick ass in the game! They get an additional die of damage against Warjacks and they have subtle and complicated rules to give them some continued challenges and interest.

My least favourite units are those with very straightforward rules as they're too easy to master. It's going to take me a while to get the hang of these dudes.

That first guy is cool but this lady is my favourite.

And this one is the worst. You may notice I filed off his crappy puppet. It really was terrible and ruined the model. Now he still has his little puppet controller but he uses it on the Warjack targets instead. 

On the Painting Table: Cryx Mechanithralls!

These cute little blighters have some good and bad points as far as t5he models (and rules) are concerned.

To overcome the models' shortcomings I came up with an ingenious colour scheme designed to emphasise the good bits and de-emphasise the not so good bits.

So instead of being zombie skeletons with bionic parts, they're now wearing black bodygloves. This keeps the focus on the better parts of the miniatures. They look a tad sci-fi but at least they look good.

They were painted metal and dark grey with four layers of black ink and then highlighted two shades of metal.

This is my favourite one.

In-game they flood the opponent's lines with easy to kill but easy to resurrect annoyance. And with some properly applied debuff spells, their bionic fists can pack quite a nasty punch or ten.

I'm aiming for two full size units of ten with a Necrotech and Stitch Thralls to resurrect them and some Brute Thralls for extra muscle.

Spotlight On: The Revenant Crew of the Atramentous

Ah haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrr me Jim Lad!!!!!

You’ve gotta love undead pirates!

These scallywags were bought for me by my good friend Neil for my birthday and mighty fine they are.

I was unsure about the models to some extent but some of them are lovely (like the unit leader above).

Others, not so much…

But they’re still pirates and they’re still undead so it isn’t a total loss.

Then there’s this guy – one of the nicest miniatures ever!

Partly cause I have a thing for 20,000 Fathoms Under the Sea. 

Rules wise they have the undead staple of coming back from the dead which is always good for a laugh. I’m looking forward to seeing how that works out in game terms.

And here’s Captain Rengrave.

As a solo, he makes the unit better and I bought him myself to capture the full pirate flavour. 

He’s also a nice model. 

 All I need now are the Black Ogrun Boarding Party and I’ll be away!
